Cooperative Education allows students to earn credits by integrating coursework with hands-on learning at a community placement.

Enrollment in Cooperative Education is continuous, and students can get started anytime during the school year. Students can choose from various co-op placements that best suit their needs and interests.

In the past, Kenjgewin Teg has had student placements in the skilled trades, marketing, retail and food services. The number of hours they spend at the placement is flexible and ranges from 3 to 7 hours a day.

Kenjgewin Teg will ensure that health and safety training standards and appropriate PPE are met before the start of the placement.

Generally, cooperative education placements are nonpaid opportunities. If a student is already working at a job, we can work with their employer to arrange for them to earn cooperative education credits while they work.

Cooperative Education gives students the opportunity to:

  • Experience hands-on learning

  • Learn new practical skills

  • Earn credit towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Try out different career options

  • Gain valuable work experience for future employment or post-secondary learning

  • Make connections with employers

  • Build their resume for the future
