This will be a hybrid delivery model with some in-person weekends at Kenjgewin Teg’s M’Chigeeng campus.

Program Overview

Gain the skills and knowledge you need for employment in a variety of addiction settings through practical, hands-on learning. The curriculum is based on the holistic teachings of the Medicine Wheel, with a focus on the root causes of addiction within Indigenous communities. You will learn both cultural and mainstream approaches to addiction counselling. Training ranges from pharmacology to traditional methods, including Sacred Circles, Teaching/Learning Circles, and using the Four Sacred Medicines – tobacco, cedar, sage and sweet grass.

Admission Requirements

OSSD or equivalent, ENG 4C or ENG 4U.
If English is not your first language you must provide proof of English competency.

Other Information

  • Graduates of the IWAP program are eligible to become accredited through the Indigenous Certification Board of Canada.
  • Option to receive a College Certificate after the successful completion of one year (six courses) or an Ontario College Diploma after two years and the successful completion of all program courses.
