Post-Secondary Programs at Kenjgewin Teg

Kenjgewin Teg has offered post secondary programming, both university and college accredited programs, since 1994. The Post-Secondary Education and Training team coordinates and plans collaboratively to provide community-based programs to its member First Nations and non-First Nations communities. Programs are open to students of all backgrounds - both Indigenous and non-Indigenous in the surrounding area. Our on-site College and University program offerings will change year-to-year according to identified needs and partner capacity. Computer Applications

CREDENTIAL:  Ontario College Certificate, Canadore College
​PROGRAM LENGTH: 1 year (2 semesters) OR obtain credits on a per course basis. (Courses will conclude December 2020)
PROGRAM START: February 2020, Tuesday & Thursday evenings
(no class sessions during March Break or August)
The courses in this program are designed to develop proficiency in various areas of computer application. The curriculum concentrates on software applications and techniques currently in use in business. An Ontario College Certificate will be granted after successful completion of curriculum (all courses), OR, if courses taken individually on a modular basis, a certificate of completion and college credits will be provided.

​Curriculum courses include (in this order): 1) Intro to Microsoft Word, 2) Advanced Microsoft Word, 3) Microsoft PowerPoint, 
Fall:
​4) Intro to Microsoft Excel, 5) Advanced Microsoft Excel, and, 6) Fundamentals of Operating Systems.

Aboriginal  Teacher Education Program
CREDENTIAL: Bachelor of Education*, Queen's University
PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 years/6-term, Full-time (inc. Practicum)
START DATE: May 2020 & May 2021
The Community-based Program provides an opportunity to specialize in Aboriginal education and attend classes at Queen's University for one summer session and on Manitoulin Island for the remainder of the program, preparing and qualifying graduates for Ontario College of Teachers certification. Become a future educator locally, nationally or globally with Queen's University Teacher Education. *Options available to you based on your education level. ​

Master of Social Work Program - Indigenous Field of Study
CREDENTIAL: Master of Social Work Degree, Laurier University
PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 years, Part-time 
START DATE: September 2020
As the first Indigenous Master of Social Work program in Canada that is completely informed by an Indigenous world view, the goal is to develop social work practitioners who demonstrate an understanding of an respect for the history, traditions and cultures of the Indigenous Peoples of Canada. This unique program includes the involvement of Indigenous Elders, a traditional circle process and Indigenous ceremonies.

Personal Support Worker
CREDENTIAL: College Certificate, Canadore College
PROGRAM LENGTH: 1 year, Full-time 
START DATE: September 2020
This program trains students to offer personal care and home management services to clients in community or institutional settings. Personal support workers provide services to clients with physical, cognitive, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Learn hands-on in the classroom, on community placements and in the home environment simulation lab equipped with high-end fidelity audio/visual equipment and interactive mannequins. PSWs are highly sought after as health care providers, working collaboratively as part of the health care team or in a supported independent living environment.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
CREDENTIAL: Post-Graduate Certificate, Sault College
PROGRAM LENGTH: 1 year (2 semesters), Full-time 
PRE-REQUISITE: Ontario College Diploma or Degree

START DATE: September 2020
This Ontario College Graduate Certificate program provides professionals with specialized knowledge and skills in Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and service delivery to individuals, families and groups at risk for, or living with, FASD. 
This initiative is designed for professionals to provide knowledge and skills to improve FASD services, to impact policy development and to understand the complex challenges facing families, individuals and communities at risk for, or living with, FASD. Effective prevention and intervention strategies, research and professionalism are emphasized so that services may be delivered in a respectful and culturally competent manner toward achieving balance and harmony in the context of holistic health and healing of all community members.

Shki-Maajiinakiing: Pathway to Trades
CREDENTIAL: Certificte of Completion, College Credits from Canadore College
PROGRAM LENGTH: 1 year (2 semesters), Full-time
START DATE: September 2020
FEES/TUITION: No cost for tuition or textbooks, students required to obtain CSA approved work boots and appropriate clothing.
The trades industry is booming, and now is the time to get the skills you need to work in this diverse field. This program will expose you to a variety of skills to guide you in your pathway to furthering your education or a rewarding career in the trades.

Practical Nursing Program
CREDENTIAL: College Diploma, Fleming College
PROGRAM LENGTH: 2 years, Full-time (5 semesters)
START DATE: May 2021
FEES/TUITION: approximately $2900 per semester = $14,500
As a graduate of Kenjgewin Teg & Fleming's Practical Nursing diploma program, you will have the necessary knowledge and skills to care for individuals, families and groups across the life-span. You will be able to work in acute hospital care settings, community health agencies, industry, clinics, doctor's offices and long-term care facilities.
As a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) you are able to practice independently in a variety of health care settings. You will seek the collaboration of other health care team members, including the RNs, with complex health care issues. You will also have an opportunity to promote health and wellness and prevention of illness through educational programs.

PROGRAM START: January 2021 (Full-time status, blended delivery mode)
LOCATION: Remote delivery via M'Chigeeng, ON
FEES/TUITION:
  • Semester One: Free
  • Semester 2-4: *$2000 per semester

The Early Childhood Education - Anishinaabemowin (ECE-A) Program is a highly specialized Anishinaabe immersion program designed to train individuals who aspire to work in early childhood Anishinaabemowin Immersion settings.  Anishinaabe Aadiziwin (Worldview) and Cultural perspective are at the heart of this program.  AEC students must commit to improving their Ojibwe language acquisition while training to become early childhood educators.

Indigenous Classroom Assistant Diploma

CREDENTIAL:  Diploma, Nipissing Univesity
​PROGRAM LENGTH: 1 year (2.5 semesters)
PROGRAM START: January 2021 (Full-time status, remote/online delivery mode with school placements)
LOCATION: Remote delivery via M'Chigeeng, ON
FEES/TUITION:
  • Part 1: $5000 *approximate cost, to be determined
Classroom Assistants support teachers by helping to supervise activities in the classroom; working with children on an individual, small group or whole class basis. In some instances, classroom assistants work on a one-to-one basis with children with special educational needs. The ICAD Pprogram consists of two parts: remote/online learning and two in-school (6-week) placements with a qualified teacher, in a classroom setting, during the school year. Students are enrolled in mandatory courses for the program.
Students must successfully pass all of Part 1 with a 60% minimum in each course in order to progress to Part 2.
