Business & Training Services
Question: Why does KTEI have a business centre in the first place? The role of many non-profit organizations has evolved dramatically in a relatively short time: from that of voluntary/civic model, to philanthropic patronage, rights and entitlements – and now to a hybrid competitive/market stage where the ability to contribute to self-sufficiency is key. In 2010, the KTEI board of directors approved that the organization’s future growth, and asserted that financial sustainability and impact must be approached with a sound business plan and business model in mind- thereby launching KTEI into the realm of educational social entrepreneurship.
Today, non-profit organizations such as KTEI cannot rely or assume automatic continuation of traditional government program subsidies. Instead, the marketplace for social non-profits has become a new centre and source of financial support, whereby developing a focused business strategy (and business plan) will play a central role in determining long term success. Finding and striking a comfortable balance between public sector funding and its own source revenue to offset unfunded or non-funded educational service is our goal. Own source revenue through special contract and training will be a key service for KTEI’s financial future.
KTEI’s services as an Anishinabek Consulting Solutions provider to Anishinabek people and organizations is consistent with our goal to improve educational outcomes.
